TAP Air Portugal cabin crew interview questions

Europe · 4 categories · 16 questions

These are real-style questions in the four categories TAP Air Portugal assessments actually use — safety and scenario judgment, motivation and fit, teamwork (CRM), and background. All 16 are below in full, with the guidance a recruiter would give. No account needed to read them.

Safety & scenario judgment

A passenger collapses in the aisle mid-Atlantic with no diversion airport nearby. What do you do?

They want the full sequence including the reality that diversion may not be an option: assess, alert, call for medical assistance, use the kit and ground-based medical advice, and manage the surrounding cabin. Assuming a diversion will solve it is the naive answer.

You find a passenger vaping in the lavatory. How do you handle it?

They want confident, non-negotiable enforcement, the senior informed, and documentation for the ground — plus awareness that the smoke detector was tampered with if it did not trigger. Treating it as a minor rule breach understates it.

What would you do if a passenger refused to switch seats when asked for operational reasons?

They want the reason explained, the request held where it is a weight-and-balance or safety matter, and escalation if refused.

How would you respond to smoke coming from an overhead bin?

They want the flight deck informed immediately, the bin approached with the fire kit rather than opened casually, and continuous monitoring.

Motivation & fit

Why TAP, and what do you understand about our Brazil and Africa routes?

The Lisbon hub connecting Europe to Brazil and lusophone Africa is what makes this airline distinctive. Naming that shows research; talking only about Portugal as a destination does not.

How do you feel about the mix of short European sectors and long-haul rotations?

They want evidence you understand the two rhythms are genuinely different jobs and that you are prepared for both. A preference is fine if it is honest and informed.

Final interviewEditorialReviewed Jul 2026

What do you know about the difference between our European and long-haul operations?

They want awareness these are different rosters and crew structures, and which one new crew typically join.

Final interviewEditorialReviewed Jul 2026

Why this airline rather than a larger European carrier?

A differentiation test. They want the Lisbon hub, the Brazil and Africa network, or the culture named specifically.

Teamwork & CRM

Describe a time you supported a colleague having a bad day at work.

They want a specific action taken, not sympathy felt. The strong version includes noticing before being told.

A passenger complains about a colleague's attitude. How do you respond?

Listen fully, acknowledge without either condemning or defending your colleague to the passenger, resolve what you can, and raise it privately afterwards. Taking the passenger's side out loud is the failure.

Tell me about a time you worked with someone from a very different generation.

Crew age ranges are wide. They want a specific adjustment rather than a general claim of getting on with everyone.

Final interviewEditorialReviewed Jul 2026

Describe a time you had to rebuild a relationship after friction.

They want the repair actually attempted, and the working relationship functioning afterwards.

Background & general

Which languages do you speak, and how do Portuguese and English feature in your working day here?

Portuguese and English both carry real traffic on this network. They want an honest working level in each and awareness that Brazilian and European Portuguese differ in register.

What does good service look like when the flight is delayed and passengers are angry?

They want information, presence, and honesty rather than apology alone — being visible in the cabin, giving updates even when there is nothing new, and never inventing a reason. Hiding in the galley is the behaviour this question screens for.

Final interviewEditorialReviewed Jul 2026

How do you handle a passenger who compares you unfavourably to another airline?

They want composure, no disparagement of either airline, and a focus on what you can do now.

Final interviewEditorialReviewed Jul 2026

What is your plan for the physical side of long-haul flying?

They want a real routine — sleep, hydration, movement on layover — not an assertion of fitness.

Reading questions is the easy part. This is the same recruiter that runs the full interview — it asks from the list above, pushes back when an answer is thin, and tells you what an assessor would have flagged. No account, no card.
